The Collapse of Civilization is a dystopian work that serves as a cultural prophecy of an era marked by global conflicts and the moral resignation of so-called Western civilization. Vladimír Turner works with the image of a broken historical column that, instead of standing on a solid foundation, rests on unstable, rusted metal rods. The classical column, a traditional symbol of stability, order, and European culture, is transformed here into a fragile and unsettling object. It evokes a world that outwardly continues to invoke the great values of the past, yet whose true foundations have been undermined. The work can be read as a commentary on an era of global conflicts, social fatigue, and moral resignation. At the same time, it criticizes rapid real estate development, in which historical memory and public space are often subordinated to the pressure of profit. Turner thus connects the past, the current construction boom, and a vision of a possible future in which the ideals of civilization give way to economic interests and instability.
