Urban Disobedience Toolkit ✦ Film screening with director Vladimír Turner (CZ) at Unlock Book Fair 2026.
Czech artist and filmmaker Vladimír Turner has spent nearly two decades dedicated to art in public space, working across documentary, public-space intervention and street-level activism. His latest works belong to his broader project Publicly Beneficial Works (publicservice.art).
At Unlock he brings two threads of that project. On Friday afternoon he screens his film Urban Disobedience Toolkit, which follows a group of guerrilla artists in Prague who reclaim their city through unconventional and subversive installations in public space, pushing back against the rapid urban transformation and the privatisation of the public realm it brings with it.
Turner will also present the book that accompanies the film: Battering Ram of Imagination—A Manual of Urban Disobedience. Published this year by Utopia Libri (@utopia_libri) in a Czech edition, the 304-page hardcover gathers an eclectic selection of visual material, instructions, manifestos, interviews, stories, poetry and historical reflections on recent decades of creative non-conformity of the new urban avant-garde. Its interdisciplinary character amplifies the cracks in the system and points to imaginative possibilities of resistance to apathy at times when the global ruling class of the ultra-wealthy is approaching hybrid forms of neo-fascism, against which we need to fight by all possible means.
Turner is among the featured artists at the Urban Art Biennale.
